When I was in San Francisco for WWDC, I had the great pleasure of eating deem sum (Chinese small portions) with some really good friends. Some of the best deem sum I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. The restaurant was Yank Sing and I am not alone in singing its praises. Check out their web site, especially their gallery of foods and their reviews section.
My favorite might be their Sesame Balls, rice-flour balls stuffed with sweet yellow bean puree:
That might sound odd for a dessert but trust me, this is heaven. There are two locations. We ate at the Yank King on Stevenson. Next time I am in San Francisco, I’m heading straight there…
OK, maybe this is a little weird. I mean, how did she get off the island? It matters not. Mary Ann is here and she’s going to show you a neat little trick that really works…

There’s a group of four guys, two brothers and two friends, pretty good cooks, decide they want to start a business. They can’t afford the up-front cash required for a restaurant, so they buy a 1965 bread delivery truck, paint it, outfit it with a fridge, sink, and food-warming system. Add in campy costumes, nicknames, and some patter and you’re good to go.
But here’s where it gets interesting. Merlindian, as the truck is known, travels around Washington, DC, settling in on an available parking space. They then send out a tweet with their location and their customers come running. The key here is good food, food worth finding. And Twitter.
