I have three kids, and I pay attention to their online habits. I don’t spy on them, necessarily, but I try to stay in touch with what they spend their time doing and I chat with them about the bad guys out there and the tricks they use to take advantage of the unwary.
We talk about identity theft, online predators, and cyberbullying. We also talk about the politics of being online. For example, an inappropriate comment or picture posted on facebook can follow you around forever.
Recently, I came upon connectsafely.org, a web site chock full of useful info for your kids. Take a minute to look through the site, just to get a sense of what’s there. My kids aren’t really interested in the site, per se, but it has provided many a starting point for our online safety discussions.
